Floral patterns and fabric have been in and out of styles like a yoyo over the last 100 years. They are typically associated with being girly or old fashioned which is why when fashion in overall became more manly or scruffy that floral fabrics went out of favour. The last time that seriously patterned floral fabrics were de rigueur was in the 1980s helped drastically by the pioneering efforts of Laura Ashley.
